Here in the UK, Mother’s Day is on the 27th of March this year. There really are not too many days left! It is very nice that people buy me presents for being a Mum, and I do not wish to be ungrateful. But it would be nice to have a say in what I really need or want. Just in case anyone is reading (hint hint) here are some unique gift ideas for Mother’s Day this year. Or what I’d really like.

Unique Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day
If you are anything like me, you hate buying and receiving ‘stuff’ just for the sake of it. If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know that I am on a bit of a decluttering binge. I would much rather make some memories than have a new perfume (which I don’t need!), so I much prefer gifting experiences over things.
So what unique Mother’s Day gifts would I rather receive?
A Trip to See Historic Places
I love history, and a great day out for me is visiting a castle, stately home or museum. A lovely gift for another Mum who feels the same would be a membership of English Heritage or the National Trust. Even on the worst of weather days a great time can be had. One of my favourite places to visit is York.
Maybe even a weekend away (with or without the children) would be a nice idea if the budget will allow?
A Day Experience
One of my favourite gifts to give or receive is the promise of a day doing something that I have never done before. Maybe a day learning a new skill or being creative? There are lots of experience days out there, and you could learn a new skill such as sewing, crochet, jewellery making or glass making. My gorgeous other half treated me to a morning session of pottery and ceramics last year, and we really enjoyed it.
Not into creative days? Maybe you would prefer a theatre trip? Or how about racing a supercar, or a session in a recording studio? (Actually I’d love this last one!)
Spa Day
A day being pampered is always welcome. I recently spent a day at My Little Farm Spa. and it was such a lovely relaxing and reenergising experience. Who doesn’t love a bit of self care?
I do realise that this could be a bit of an ask, and so some luxury spa products to do my own pampering is an option. My Little Farm Spa used Neom products like these from John Lewis.
Or maybe, if you have a bigger budget, you could buy a hot tub or sauna for your own use at home? (B&Q even sell portable hot tubs and saunas these days!)
Something Precious
Jewellery is always a lovely gift idea. But even more precious and personal is a jewellery piece with a message. This gorgeous initialled and engraved gold necklace from Myri London is perfect for Mother’s Day. With space for an initial on the front, and a small personalised message on the rear, it would make a wonderful gift for any mum or that special lady in your life.
Something From a Small Business
We love supporting small businesses, as you know you are getting lovely quality items and supporting a family or small shop over the large corporates. One of my particular favourites is scented wax melts.
Maybe you can find something suitable on Etsy?
Notebooks
Is there a mum who doesn’t need a list to remember all she has to do? I live my whole life by lists, and the older I get the more I realise that I need to write things down.
I love notebooks. As a writer and blogger I always carry one in my bag. My favourite ones are from Rifle Paper Company. They match my favourite fabrics. You can get a great selection at Waterstones.
Something Hand Made
Who doesn’t love a handmade gift? Sometimes this can actually show a lot of thought and love, because you have actually had to put some of your own time and effort into the present.

Gift of Time
At the end of the day, we can all be on a bit of a tight budget. For those with very little budget, why not gift the best thing that you can – time? All Mums are time-short. There are never enough hours in the day for all we want to do. So why not pledge to do something to ease the burden for the next few days/weeks? Maybe you could
- wash up every night for a week
- do some other housework
- offer a shoulder massage
- take the children away for a few hours so that Mum can have some me-time.
Why not print out my template for your own personalised time gift voucher and place it inside your Mother’s Day card?
So, I hope that I have given you a few pointers towards unique gift ideas for Mother’s Day. Do let me know if there are any of these that you would love to try out yourself – and do get those hints dropped firmly into your love ones minds before the big day! Why not pin this post or share for later?
What great ideas.
I think experience days are the best idea for gifts. I am actually getting my nephew one for his 18th birthday. #MMBC
I agree, memories make better gifts than presents in my book. Especially when people are hard to buy for.
Some great unusual gifts there, it’s always nice to gift, or be given something different. x
#mmbc
Thank you Anne. I love more unusual gifts.
I’ve just had the child free weekend away so maybe I’ll go for the SPA day for mother’s day. I’ll start warming the kids up to the creating the space for me and perhaps sort something similar for my Mum too. #Globalblogging
That sounds like a great idea. My mum is more into the history and day trips away. I hope you enjoy your day!
These are some great ideas! Like the history one but not sure my wife would appreciate it so much. Will have to try something more relaxing I think #triuphanttales
Hopefully I have given some good ideas.
For Mothers Day I’m all about a lay in, long soak in a bath, musical movie on the tele and a meal out with my boys – not much but just a chilled day where I’m not the one doing most of the parenting!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week!
That sounds like a great day to me!
Fantastic ideas! I love a good day spa – a whole day just for me? Amazing. And time – yes please!
#TriumphantTales
I hope that you get all that you wish for.
Some great inspiration for Mother’s Day – love the idea of visiting a historic place! 🙂 #GeekOut Sim x #TriumphantTales
Thank you. Always think a day out making memories trumps material things.
great ideas, i will be pinning this. thanks
Thank you so much for reading!
oh gosh yes, I love notebooks! Pamper days are lovely too but as they’re so rare I’m learning to make little moments of relaxation happen each day. If you have a Weleda Wellbeing Advisor in your area you can book in a 1:1 skincare consultation which will include a min-facial using 100% organic products. No obligation to buy anything, we just love giving people a relaxing experience and a chance to find out about such a brilliant company.
Even finding 5 minutes in you’re day is so important, that is true. I did not know that about the Weleda advisors – will take a look. Thank you!
I like the historic visit idea! #Triumphanttales
I must admit a day trip into historic places is my perfect day! Thank you for reading
Thank you so much for reading!
Lovely ideas here Jo! Especially gifting a National Trust or English Heritage membership. We get so much from ours. 🙂
Thanks for sharing with #MMBC. Have a lovely weekend. x
I so agree Jayne. There are so many brilliant days out when you have one of these memberships.
Trips always make the gifts in my opinion. #kcacols
I so agree! Thank you for reading!
Great ideas. I think experience days make great gifts, I love buying experiences rather than things they might not use #kcacols

Jo, these are all splendid gift ideas! I, too, as a mom, would love a gift that truly matters to me. Usually my children pick very well for me. I would love a weekend at a B&B! I live in the US, but, my dream is to visit the UK. Thank you for sharing all these lovely ideas!
Thank you Marilyn. I do hope that you get to visit us here in the UK soon!

Thank you Lana, I must admit I do my own manicures but wouldn’t mind someone else doing it from time to time…
Jo, you have fabulous ideas here! I would love a spa day (or ten), an experience (no clutter, just memories) or someone else picking up around the house. Wishing you the very best Mother’s Day! May you get what you want and enjoy it! #kcacols
Oh for someone else picking up around the house… *stares dreamily into the middle distance* Thank you for reading Lisa
Spa and stationery! Yaaaassss! #KCACOLS

Lovely ideas, and I would absolutely love a sauna! A session in the recording studio sounds like great fun, too. Considering our budget though, it’s more likely that I’l get a box of chocolates and/or a bottle of port. Still very nice 🙂 x #KCACOLS
Oh, I could appreciate a bottle of port too!
I’d love a spa day. Would be lovely. The experience days sound like a good idea too.

Fantastic suggestions, Jo! I used to love taking my mum out for day trips, just somewhere local-ish usually or a quiet weekend away. With Covid, that’s all changed. Not sure if we’ll even risk a coffee shop at the moment which is a bit heartbreaking after two years and with her having just had a heart attack. I remember doing vouchers for gifts when I was a teenager, that’d be fun to do again. I think I’ll have to add an “IOU” for a zoo trip as I think that’d be lovely for us both, whenever it seems doable and safe. A precious gift, like you’ve put here with jewellery, is always a lovely option for Mother’s Day. My mum likes her keepsakes too. xx
I hope you do have a lovely day in the future with your mum sometime soon! Totally agree, this ongoing Covid situation does make it so hard. Much love to your mum for a speedy recovery. x
