If you’re looking for something a bit different to get away from the hustle and bustle, the good news is that Britain is home to many hidden gems that make a great day trip with the family. Plan some incredible days out in these beautiful historic UK towns.

Beautiful Historic UK Towns
In the UK, we’re very fortunate to have a rich and well-documented history. From great kings and queens to epic battles, a lot has happened here over the years. And what’s great about the UK is that if you want to step back in time and learn a bit more about the past, there are plenty of places you can do it.
1. Rye
Rye, East Sussex, is a charming market town that is full of historic buildings and stunning cobbled streets. There are a lot of things to see and do in Rye, including the famous Ypres Tower, which has now been turned into a museum that is well worth the visit. Rye is home to some picturesque pubs like The Mermaid Inn (dating back over 600 years) that serve up some tasty food and a warm welcome, while Camber Sands beach is just a 3-mile walk from the centre of the town.
With so much to explore, you’ll have fun getting lost in Rye.
2. Henley-in-Arden
Henley-in-Arden (not to be confused with Henley-on-Thames) is an incredible town that is packed with historical medieval buildings that are a must-see. From the gorgeous Packwood House to Hall’s Croft and Mary Arden’s Farm, you could spend hours admiring the beautiful architecture and learning more about Britain’s history. As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also find the British Motor Museum and Coughton Court. So there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re looking for a good pub or restaurant Henley-in-Arden, be sure to visit The Winged Spur. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy some lunch during your visit, with delicious food and an amazing atmosphere too.
3. Ludlow
Ludlow, Shropshire, is another historic market town that boasts some stunning architecture. It makes a great day out with the family. The town of Ludlow was home to the Council of Wales and the Marches during the 15th century and was the scene for King Edward V of England proclaiming the throne back in 1483. Some of the best things to see in Ludlow include Ludlow Castle and St Laurence’s Church.
It’s worth reading up on the history of Ludlow before your visit to help you learn more about this incredible town.
