Thinking of purchasing a new carpet is not a decision to be taken lightly. There are lots of different factors to consider when choosing the ideal floor covering. You have to be sure that you are getting the ideal floor covering for the room you need. So here are some things to consider when buying a new carpet.

Things To Consider When Buying A New Carpet

Your Budget

Obviously one of the most important things to consider is how much you have to spend. And don’t forget to factor in the other costs of getting a new carpet.

You may also need new underlay, and fitting costs. These all have to be considered when thinking of buying any new floor covering.

The Room You Need The Carpet For

This is a very important consideration. Which room is the carpet for? For instance, you may wish to have a more luxurious and longer pile carpet in the bedrooms.

In children’s rooms you may wish to place a brightly patterned carpet. There are even carpets that feature your little ones favourite characters!

How Much Wear You Expect The Carpet To Get

In some rooms a shorter pile and more hardwearing carpet is a better idea. For example, in your home office, where you may have a swivel chair on wheels constantly in motion. Or in a children’s playroom.

In high traffic areas, such as stairs and hallways, there are some carpets that are designed to take all this extra wear. It is certainly not worth purchasing carpet that will wear quickly in these areas.

Who Will Be Using That Room?

What will the room be used for, and who will spend time in there? In areas such as dining rooms for instance, it may be prudent to think about spillages. Perhaps you could consider getting a stain resistant carpet. These carpets are impregnated with a finish that mean that most stains just roll off the surface, thus protecting your investment.

Who is using the room can also be a major consideration when thinking about the colour of carpet that you are going to choose. For example, having a cream carpet when you have pets and small children may be a bad idea. Maybe considering going for a darker colour is a better choice in these situations.

How Green Do You Wish To Be?

In this day and age we are all looking to more sustainable alternatives to everyday items. You will be pleased to hear that as well as the traditional wool carpets, there are also carpets made from bamboo and recycled materials out there. These provide a durable and yet eco-friendly floor covering.

So as you can see, by taking into account all these things to consider when buying a new carpet, you should get the perfect floor covering for your budget and lifestyle.

These are great tips! I need to buy a new one for my living room, but I’m trying to hang onto it as long as possible during the renovation.

My living room carpet is cream, and well overdue a change. With a 4 year old it’s a bad idea right now. But I’ll never get cream again!
