As we break out of the depths of winter and head into spring and summer, many of us are looking forward to a change in attire. The big coats and jackets can be banished to winter storage, with shorts, dresses and sandals making their return.

If you’re looking for inspiration to revamp your wardrobe a little, then you’ve come to the right place. Below, we explore some of the main trending fashion staples for summer 2026, from 90s nostalgia to knit polos.

1990s nostalgia

As you know, fashion comes round in cycles, and we’re currently seeing a bit of a return to 90s nostalgia. Bags with loud animal print, heaps of layered jewellery, slouchy, baggy suits – you name it, it’s probably being (re)done.

From slip dresses to casually adopted accessories, we’ve seen the likes of everyone from Victoria Beckham to Wooyoungmi bring this vibe to the runways for Spring/Summer 26.

Maximalism

While we have seen a return to the 90s, we’re simultaneously potentially seeing the death of quiet luxury.

Chanel and Saint Laurent have introduced vibrant evening wear summer outfits, complete with feathers and massive gowns, while Bottega Veneta has brought skirts and jackets fringed with sparkling metal.

Maximalism is fun because there are far fewer rules than with quieter, more modest trends. Play around with what you already have, thrift a little, and see what you can make work.

Crops are back, but different this time

Prada, Givenchy and Hermes have all taken new approaches to the crop top, and they’ve all been creative in their interpretations.

Prada have adopted more of a bra top look, while Max Mara’s offering is more like a bandeau with belts to accentuate the midriff.

Crop tops are easy to play around with yourself, if you feel like getting a little creative. With just some scissors and a sewing machine, you can easily convert an old t-shirt into something quite wonderful.

Enduring staples

Quite aside from what we’ve seen on the runways, there are always the more enduring summer fashion staples that never seem to go away.

Items like white t-shirts and lightweight denim trousers will likely never go out of style, and it’s worth stocking up before summer comes around.

If you’re going to do a larger order, it’s often worth looking at suppliers like Screen Textiles. You’ll get access to high-quality brands, but you will also often find attractive discounts when you order larger amounts of garments.

While universal fashion staples can be fun to play around with, it’s important to learn and accept that we also create our own staples – pieces that we come to feel comfortable and stylish in that never leave our wardrobes, year in, year out.

Allow these two realms of fashion staples to merge and inform one another, to come up with a wonderful range of garments that allow you to breeze through the summer season in style. Ultimately, so long as you feel stylish, nothing else really matters at all.
