But I am also as you know a huge fan of sustainability and ethically made products. So I was delighted to be contacted by the Fine Bedding Company. They asked me to do a review of The Night Owl Duvet, their best selling luxury duvet.

Because the company has such a strong commitment to being sustainable and ethical in their production methods, I looked forward to seeing what one of their duvets felt like! Read on to see what I thought.

The Night Owl Duvet From The Fine Bedding Company

The Night Owl Duvet from The Fine Bedding Company - a lightweight, super soft, cover free duvet that can be washed at home & is made from sustainable materials. Here is our review.

How do you like the sound of a duvet that does not need a cover, is super light and can be washed and dried in your own washing machine? The Night Owl Duvet promises all this and more. The Fine Bedding Company have developed a duvet that can be washed at 60 degrees up to 20 times without losing its soft texture and feel.

Moreover, the duvet does not need a cover, as it comes with a lovely luxurious super soft surface. Never grapple with a duvet cover again!

Who Are The Fine Bedding Company?

Established in 1912, The Fine Bedding Company began their business by supplying cruise liners and hotels with their ranges of luxury bed products. However, as they have evolved, they have made it one of their missions to create a better nights sleep for everyone.

The company prides itself on their commitment to the environment and the communities where they produce their products. They engage in many sustainable responsible practices. For their real duck down products, they use ethically sourced down which is a byproduct of the food industry. And they have reduced their carbon footprint on the way that they export products.

But their top selling product, The Night Owl Duvet, is filled with their patented Smartfil fibre, which is actually made from recycled bottles. With 25% less polyester in their products and by using 38% recycled products, the Fine Bedding Company are doing all they can to reduce and reuse plastic.

So What Did We Think Of The Night Owl Duvet?

I reviewed the King Size Night Owl Duvet in colour Cloud Grey – weight 10.5 TOG for Year Round Warmth. This retails at £55. It arrived in a recycled plastic bag, and also came in a protective fabric duffle bag.

Duffle Bag for the Night Owl Duvet

Lightweight

My first impression on opening the duvet and putting it on the bed was how light this duvet is! It really is lightweight compared to be old standard winter duvet. In fact, my other half did not believe it was going to be warm enough for the cold nights that we have been having. So the first night we slept with it on the bed, he wore more bedclothes that usual. And ended up needing to strip off halfway through the night as he was too warm!

Without a doubt I can confirm that although this duvet feels feather light, it is certainly incredibly warm and cosy.

Soft Cover

Next thing to discuss is the soft feel of the cover. The cover to the duvet is incredibly super soft. Actually, it is a little slippy to the touch. But it is incredibly soft to your face and body. Which makes it feel so luxurious.

Soft cover of the night owl bedding

Wash and Dryable

And finally, the duvet easily packs right down to be small enough to fit in a domestic washing machine (as long as the machine is 7kg or greater in size). I am easily able to wash and dry this duvet in my washer and tumble dryer, though I will also dry it on my washing line when the weather becomes better. Recommendation is to wash at 40 degrees, though it has been fine to wash it at 30. And it dries in 90 minutes in my tumble dryer!

So My Verdict?

The Night Owl Duvet from The Fine Bedding Company - a lightweight, super soft, cover free duvet that can be washed at home & is made from sustainable materials. Here is our review.

The Night Owl Duvet is a gorgeously soft and luxurious feeling duvet that is so incredibly lightweight. Indeed, you will not believe how warm and cosy this bedding can be.

My only gripe is that losing the need for a duvet cover has relieved my other half from one of his weekly chores, so now I have to find something else for him to do what it comes to bed changing day! Maybe I will look at the Duvet Covers of Imperial Rooms.

Oooo I love the sound of this! I’m always saying that I want to get a coverless duvet, but they’ve only properly started to become a ‘thing’ in the last couple of years here. I had a coverless duvet when I worked in the states yeeeears ago and adored it. I just get SO frustrated with duvet covers. I use a kingsize duvet & kingsize covers, yet there are ALWAYS GAPS EVERYWHERE! Drives me mad The sustainability factor here is pretty impressive and it’s admittedly not something I would have really thought about with duvets much before. It’s fantastic it goes in the machine, which would have been my concern. Not sure how big ours is but I feel sure it’s capable of over 7kg. Being light yet warm enough is a big bonus too. So much easier to deal with.

It’s great you’ve found this to be good, I hope you get lots of comfy nights and good sleep in future. Maybe you can task hubby with making tea for you instead of changing the duvet cover

Fantastic giveaway too! Good luck to everyone entering

    Caz xx

I was so impressed reading your review. Firstly, the fact that the duvet arrived in a recycled bag caught my attention. I love that it feels feather light and that it is incredibly warm and cosy. It made me giggle reading about your husband wearing more clothes than usual and stripping half way through the night :). That is soooo me, always cold :). It, really, would be wonderful not having my super – heavy duvet but a feather light one. Plus, bye, bye duvet covers! This duvet doesn’t need one, YES!! Please do count me in :).

Ease of care as it can go in the washing machine and the tumble dryer and you don’t have to put a cover on!

Being able to machine wash it is the best thing. I can’t get our current duvet in the washing machine and it’s as cheap to buy a new one as to have it dry cleaned.

My other half would love this, easy to use and no sheetsfor him to get tangled in! It would also be really easy for me as I struggle putting sheets on the quilts

I like the idea of it being feather light without the hassle of real feathers – the spikes poke through, the feathers move so you end up with a patch with no feathers in and are constantly shaking it to move them about – this sounds perfect! Feather light without the feathers yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
