One of the most aesthetically pleasing parts of the UK, Gower is the perfect picture of Spring. Its stunning beaches and gorgeous walks are simply unbeatable.

Using the Unmarried Partner Visa to Stay in the UK

The UK Unmarried Partner Visa is available to people with British or Irish citizen partners who would like to move in with their partner in the UK. This visa lasts 2 years and 9 months and can be extended for 2 years and 6 months.

Non-British citizens who are captivated by the charm of the UK may choose to stay in the country by applying online for an Unmarried Partner Visa and providing proof of a genuine relationship with their partner as well as proof of:

  • Age (both partners must be at least 18 years old)
  • Knowledge of English
  • Suitable and adequate accommodation
  • Sufficient funds for both individuals (the settled partner must earn at least £29,000 per year)
  • Cohabitation over the past 2 years (unless this has not been possible, in which case the applicants must prove they have been in a relationship for at least 2 years)

It costs £1,846 to apply for this Family Visa from outside the UK and £1,048 from within the UK. Even if the applicant is bringing dependants with them (which can be requested through the online application), this cost stays the same.

Successful applicants may live and work in the UK with this visa. After a period of 5 years, they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. This will help them to stay in the UK permanently.

If the application is denied by the Home Office, it may be possible to appeal it with the support of an immigration solicitor. However, keep in mind that appeals are a huge commitment, and not always successful. So it’s extremely important to avoid visa refusal by working with a trained professional on the application.

Seeking Professional Guidance

To discover the details of applying for the Unmarried Partner Visa, arrange to meet with a professional immigration lawyer. They will advise you on the full application process, including the best times to apply and the current processing times.

Immigration lawyers can also help you to make a sensible decision when it comes to staying in the UK. If the Unmarried Partner Visa is not suitable for you, they will help you to explore other options that still allow you to live and work in the UK.
