Random Facts About Me
When was the last time you cried?
This morning watching ‘The Lion King’ with my little girl. The music is gorgeous, Simba loses his Father (**sorry, spoilers**) and it always reminds me of losing my dad, as it came out the same year that my dad died. I cry a lot, even more since having a child.
If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
Yes, I think that I am a pretty loyal and reliable friend to have. I actually have a close group of friends who I have known since school, and I think we are such good friends because we complement each others traits and foibles.
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Do bears s@*t in woods?! It is lost on my 2 year old unfortunately.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Their teeth. But then I am a dentist so that is probably understandable. Not that I am judgemental, however. I am not looking to see if they are wonky or missing, its just habit!
Scary movie or happy endings?
Neither. I am more of an action movie / sci-fi sort of a girl. For instance I still have never seen ‘Pretty Woman’ or ‘Dirty Dancing’. I know, call myself a girl?!
Favourite smells?
Lemon verbena and citrus in a perfume. Though I also love vanilla and freshly mown grass. Lush used to do a ‘Grass’ shower gel and it was the best.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever been away from home?
Acapulco in Mexico. It is 5600 miles away from home. The last I was there I was transferring to a cruise. The airline had lost our luggage and we only had the clothes on our backs. We had to run through Acapulco looking for some clothes before joining the ship.
Do you have any special talents?
I have been a singer since I was very small. I have sung in shows all over the world, and had a second career as a backing singer for Jane McDonald a few years ago. You can even find me on her London Palladium DVD.
Where were you born?
Here in Leeds. Although I have moved around, I am now living about 3 miles from the place where I was born. It is now a psychiatric hospital.
What are your hobbies?
I took up sewing last year, so if I have any free time I like to make clothes. part of my blog is about my sewing journey. I also read a lot, my favourite authors are Terry Pratchett and Agatha Christie.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very small I wanted to be an air hostess. Considering my fear of flying now I think that probably wasn’t a good career move! I did then decide when I was about 12 that I wanted to be a dentist, after having lots of surgery and braces on my teeth. I was persistent and became what I wanted to be.
See how being left-handed affected my life.
How many countries have you been to?
Not as many as I would have liked to have been to, mainly due to my flying aversion. I have however done a fair amount of cruising and did part of a world cruise when I worked with Jane, so saw a lot of the Caribbean countries then.
What was your favourite/ worst subject at school?
I was a pretty good student, and liked most academic subjects, but I would have got say my favourite subject was Maths at school. I just loved the challenge. My worst subject was games. As a specky chubby teenager I was never picked first, and I wasn’t very good at running!
What is your favourite drink?
I am quite partial to a gin and slimline tonic. But as the saying goes “If you think Champagne, you drink Champagne”…Are you buying?
See some of my favourite quotes.
What would you (or have you) named your kids?
My little girl is Elizabeth Rose. Her middle name Rose was after my grandmother, who I never knew. I always loved the name and wished that it had been given to me as a middle name. I don’t have a middle name.
If we’d had (or have) a little boy, I would call him Joseph Arthur. My dad was called Joseph. Arthur is what my OH Andrew has chosen.
Who are some of your favourite YouTubers?
I watch a lot of sewing on YouTube. My favourites are The Stitch Sisters
My little girl has to watch YouTube whilst she brushes her teeth (or she refuses!) – she loves Blippi
How many boyfriends have you had?
I am 46. I’ve had a few. But I have finally found Mr Right, and we have had Baby Perfect.
Favourite memory from childhood?
Just being happy. My dad was a really good handyman and he made me a built-in bed and wardrobe and shelves in my bedroom. I pestered my mum and dad for ages to get heart wallpaper, red hearts on white and white hearts on red. Once it was done it was shocking, so claustrophobic. But it was too late, they couldn’t afford to change it and I had to live with it for about 3 years!
How would you describe your fashion sense?
Home made right now. I wear a lot of dresses in summer and jeans in winter with tunic tops. At the end of the day, as long as it has pockets and is comfortable then it is good for me!
Have you ever had a ‘spooky’ experience?
Yes, I have. Well, it was more of a coincidence really. But a very large one in a billion thing.
Tell us one of your bad habits?
Buying fabric. I have way too much but there is always so many new beautiful fabrics out there I can’t resist. Help!

Such a fun post, love the idea of you studying someone’s teeth as they talk!
I thought I would take a peek at this as I filled in mine the other day! I have also experienced losing luggage on a cruise – it was our honeymoon and one case was never recovered! I still get nervous at the luggage carousel and I will always think twice about taking well loved items away again, I lost so much stuff and we were treated appallingly by British Airways. Will never fly with them again! X
Aw, sorry to hear this. I don’t think any airline really deal well with lost luggage. One of our cases never turned up either, and it contained a lot of expensive equipment that wasn’t covered by the insurance.A lesson to be learned there. Also, I now put a few clothes and a swimsuit in my hand luggage, as the clothes we bought in Acapulco were not the best!
