Is it me or is it feeling like Spring is in the air? The temperatures have definitely been unseasonably warm, some of the spring flowers are blooming, and I have even seen some frogspawn appearing in local ponds. So with all this in mind, I was inspired to make a Pom Pom Spring garland. The brilliant thing about this is that most children can make the pompoms, though they may need adult help with the glue gun.
Pom Pom Spring Garland
We love Pom Poms. They are so easy to make, fun, colourful, and can easily be used as lovely decor. (See some of our Christmas Pom pom decorations here) We decided for the spring garland it should feature some of our favourite spring creatures. So we chose bunnies and bees.
You will need:
- Wool of various colours – love this value wool range in yellow, white and black
- Felt (I used the slightly stiffer craft felt) – in pink, white and black
- Googly eyes
- A Glue Gun
- Twine or string to hang the pompoms from as a garland.
- A Pom Pom maker – honestly, these make it so much easier!
- Sharp scissors – I swear by my Fiskars
My mantlepiece is about 1.4 metres wide, so I estimated that I would need about 5 pom pom creatures interspersed with some felt decorations.
Pom Pom rabbits
I made large white pom poms, then cut out two large ovals of white felt, and two slightly smaller ovals of pink felt. I glued these together using the glue gun. Finally I attached the ears to the pom pom with more glue from the gun, sticking the ears into the centre of the pom pom as far as they would go.
I made a nose by cutting a small heart shape of white felt, then cutting off the tip. Adding a pink roundish piece of felt with a glue gun, I attached the whole nose piece to the front of the rabbit pom pom again using the glue gun. And finally I attached googly eyes.
Making the Bees
To make the bee pom poms, you have to alternate the black and yellow on the pom pom maker, so when the pom pom maker is closed you can see the striped markings.
Then, once the pom pom is tied and secure, I added two wings to each bee. Again, these are heart shaped pieces of white felt with the tips cut off. I added googly eyes and a little black smiley mouth.
Lastly I made some felt carrot and flower shapes and glued these with the glue gun.
Assembling the Garland
I measured the twine I was using and made small marks at equidistant points along the length. I threaded the twine through each pompom, then tied the twine so that the pom poms were fixed in place. Lastly, once I had attached all the pompom animals, I added the felt decorations in-between to finish off the garland.
And you have a finished piece!
I would love to know how you get on if you make your own Pom pom Spring Garland. Let me know in the comments, or holler at me on social media.

Loving your creativity and talent. I always struggle to create pompoms that stay together #mmbc
I think a Pom Pom maker really helps there. I used to have trouble too!
This is so lovely! I love pom pom crafts they are easy enough for the kids to get involved with too.

Thank you Jayne. Yes, Pompoms are definitely a great craft for kids.
so adorable! I love making pom poms, aren’t pom pom makers just the best, I wish they’d been around when I was a kid. I love your bunnies and bees and will definitely be having a go at making some myself.

Very cute, I love your pom pom garland. You have reminded me I have some pom pom makers somewhere. I must hunt them out. Thanks for joining in my Ginx Woolly Linx Party for February.
Thank you Ginny. Love my pom pom makers. Wonder how I managed without them – badly I think!
Hey Jo! I tried doing pom-poms once and I didn’t like the outcome so much. I failed and I guess I need more practice 😉 I will try this cute spring project this weekend and see how it goes.
I certainly would always recommend a Pom-pom maker – they make the job SO much easier!
