There comes a time in your life when chasing chaos on your holidays is over, and the 3 a.m. airport rush and the adrenaline-boosting activities are no longer appealing. Whether you’re over them for good and just want grown up travel or you just want a break from the more precarious side of travel, embracing the slower, calmer side of life can be the pick-me-up you need to wash away life’s worries and get a new perspective on life and travel.
If you don’t want to tick off landmarks and rack up must-do experiences for trips that make you feel rested and rejuvenated, you need grown-up travel that feels effortless yet still hits the mark.

Cottage Hideaways That Make You Switch Off
If you really want to get away from it all, book a cottage or a countryside bolthole. The seclusion and serenity of nature can allow you a space to switch off and unwind without any expectations.
No sightseeing schedules, no rushing for a sunbed at 6 am around the pool, no fighting other tourists for the best selfie spots and no wifi if you want to really escape. Just peace, quiet, and rolling countryside for miles. You can do nothing at all. There are no expectations, just a connection with surroundings that force you to slow down.
River Cruises Without The Rush
There’s just something about being on the water that screams relaxation. If you want to still take in new experiences but without the chaos of running across cities, then river cruises could be the perfect compromise. All that’s expected of you is to head on board. And from here you can simply take in the view from your ship or private balcony if you have one, and indulge in the relaxing sea air. Why not look at a Saga Rhine river cruise; it’s a calm, cultured experience that is unhurried and can be tailored to be as minimal as you want.
Lazy Beach Breaks
Whether you’re pitching up in Devon for some late autumn chilly beach vibes, checking in on the Welsh coast or you’re heading to the Costa del Sol or a Greek Island for a hidden beach that only the locals frequent, there’s nothing like a beach getaway that screams relaxation, and the only decision you need to make is if you’re going to finish your book or take a well-deserved nap on the sun lounger.
Canal Boat Adventures
For something a little bit different yet equally relaxing, why not take on one of the UK’s many waterways in a canal boat? Moving at walking speed, no traffic to fight against, just figuring out locks. And all of a, sudden you’re meandering through some of the most scenic parts of the country without a rush or a care in the world. You can stop off or keep moving or you can sightsee. As you’re able down the canal and really get to groups with slow travel.
Luxury Hotel
Not just any luxury hotel, but one located away from the hustle and bustle of life. Pick a hotel nestled in the countryside or in a small rural location that allows you to truly unwind and sit back and do nothing. Not all hotels are designed for the slow life, but there are some exceptions to this, and the UK has some stunning destinations that are home to outstanding hotels that are designed for a more grown-up experience and allow you that R&R time you desperately need.
