In a perfect world, every little thing about your life would be personalised to suit you. You’d be able to wake up at a time that worked for you, only work the hours you really want to, be amazingly great at the things you love, and be able to get that great top you saw on the rack in the exact size to fit you! But seeing as there’s often not much you can do about these things, it’s time to focus on the everyday things you can personalise. And yes, there really are a lot more things to make your own than you may think!

From the way you decorate your bathroom to the little things you use everyday that you don’t think all that much about, here are some ideas for personalising parts of your life to make them more unique, fun, and instantly recognisable.

Plus, if you’re a parent, a lot of the personalisation ideas down below can be shared with your child too. You can take on the creativity challenge together and see what you can come up with!

Bathroom Amenities

How many items are in your bathroom? No matter the answer, there may not be enough! After all, if you’re always wanting the room to smell more inviting when you’re in there, it could be time to get a scented candle line up for the windowsill.

Or if you’re keen to throw more bath bombs into the tub, and not just resort to squeezing in some gel, get yourself a fancy tray to keep them all on. If they’re open and ready to use, you’re going to use them much more often!

When the tray runs empty, it’s a reminder to purchase more and stock up again. And all in a much more aesthetically pleasing way!

Sofa Cushions

Everyone has cushions on their sofa, but not everyone has properly personalised cushions. This could be as simple as getting a cushion for every member of the family, with their name embroidered onto a plush covering.

It could also be a matter of getting your beloved pet ‘turned’ into a pillow you can hug whilst watching movies – a novelty cushion can still be super soft and look good in the decor! And if your pet isn’t usually the cuddly type, a cushion like this can scratch the itch you get to gather them up and give them a squeeze.

Wall Art

Next on the everyday things you can personalise is wall art. This seems like an obvious one, doesn’t it? But there are so many households out there that just rely on paintings and pictures they can buy. It doesn’t cross their mind to create a few pieces themselves. Which is a lot more fun and provides something truly original.

And if you can’t find anything you’d like to put on the walls, making it yourself is sometimes the only way.

Whether you want to paint something on a canvas, or you’d like to knock some wood together and hang it up for something more artsy, go ahead and make whatever you like. If it fits the space you’ve got, and it isn’t too loud for the decor around it (and you’re also not going to bump your head on it!), it should be hung up in your space for you to enjoy.

Storage Boxes

There are probably quite a few storage boxes in your house, and that’s perfectly fine! But if there are little to no personalised storage boxes, it’s time to pull them out and have a sort through.

Firstly, this is a good way to double check you’re not holding onto unnecessary items. A bit of a declutter every now and then is good for you. But once you’ve got that out of the way, you can think about adding things to the boxes to make them instantly recognisable when you need to reach for something.

Need some extra towels? They’re in the box you’ve decorated with a coastal theme. Need to find some spare screws you can fix the bookshelf with? They’re in the box you let your child cover in glitter! Really, this can be more fun than just using some labels!

The Fridge

How often does the fridge’s inner layout annoy you? Well no more with a bit of personalisation! To start with, think about labelling the shelves to ensure things go in the right places no matter who unpacks the shopping.

Then, add a couple more sorting drawers to the fridge, for some much needed workable room inside it. You don’t have to solely rely on the bottom drawer when sorting dividers can be easily bought and slipped somewhere inside!

Cookware

Cookware can be quite easily personalised to suit the kind of chef you are. Make sure you buy sets of pans and oven dishes in materials, colours, and styles you like in the first place. Then, invest in some permanent markers you can draw on them with.

Really, anything you can use that won’t rub off over time, or be harmed by the heat of whatever appliance you put the item in, can be used on your cookware.

Your Car

Personalising your car allows you to take your personality on the road with you. You can do this in subtle ways, such as changing the interior only. Or you can be a little more extroverted about it.

If that’s the kind of thing you’d enjoy, make sure you invest in plenty of bumper stickers, and check out what number plates for sale are on the market right now. Getting a unique set of plates attached to your car can make all the difference to your vehicle’s value too!

Otherwise, get yourself some seat covers, a steering wheel cover, a few things to go on the dashboard, and an air freshener you love the smell of.

Plant Pots

If you’ve got any plant pots outside your house, whether they’re in the front garden or the back, be sure to personalise them every time you pop something new in them. This will give your garden space a bit more of a kick. And it’s quite fun to get creative in this way.

After all, there’s a lot of space on a plant pot! And that space is a lot more dynamic than just drawing onto a flat piece of paper. You bring all kinds of scenes to life, such as faces, places, and collages that you think work together.

Get fully creative here, and really put your own stamp onto the outside world! For example, you can also try plastering on some newspaper and painting over that. This will help to turn your bigger pots into statement pieces that you can easily display when hung up or on tiered shelves.

You Should Personalise Your Life a Little More Often!

Personalisation makes life a lot more fun! If you can put your own stamp on things you’re going to enjoy the things you do and use much more. From the glasses you drink from to the car you drive, there are quite a few everyday things you can personalise to turn into unique pieces that evoke your own personality.

And if you’ve got children, they can get involved with the fun too! Show them how to express themselves through their environment. Whether this is the things they wear or how many stickers they want to put on their water bottle. It’s OK to make things look a little different; it helps you to stand out and be original!
