I am a huge fan of Autumn, so I am delighted to share my Autumn bucket list.
Autumn Bucket List
It doesn’t seem like two minutes since we were enjoying the particularly fabulous summer that we had this year. But suddenly the weather has turned, the leaves are changing colour and it has definitely started getting colder.
However, to me this isn’t such a bad thing. I do love the Autumn. The russet reds and mustard yellow of the leaves, especially when there are big scrunchy piles to kick through, are a real boost to the senses.
So what is on my Autumn Bucket list this year?
1. Go collecting conkers
I have already made a start doing this. Elizabeth and I went out yesterday to the park near our house to see whether the conkers had started to fall yet. I was a bit disappointed as the tree at the end of our street seems to be producing just the pods with no conkers in. I wondered if it was because of the unseasonably hot summer we had. But to our delight the trees in the park had dropped a few big ones. And even better, as we stood collecting on a particularly windy day, we got to see a few conkers drop and split right before our eyes. I don’t think I have ever watched this happen before, and Elizabeth was absolutely filled with wonder and delight. Such a great moment.
I make zero waste washing liquid with conkers. It makes a great free washing detergent for clothes. Find out how here.
2. Play and Kick through the crunchy leaves.
We also did this yesterday. The different colours are fabulous. Elizabeth is just really learning colours and numbers, so it was fun to find the different colours and count how many of each we had. We got a fabulous haul!
3. Make an Autumn Garland
Well, I do like a bit of crafts! Using the haul of conkers, and the leaves, make holes through the conkers with an awl or a fine screwdriver, thread onto a piece of twine or string. How many you use is up to you but they are quite heavy so I erred on the side of fewer conkers. Then also thread or tie a few leaves, cones and other autumn flora at regular intervals and you have yourself a really seasonal garland. This is a brilliant activity for children to do too, but let an adult make the holes in the conkers!
You can also use the same principles to make a door wreath, or use the leaves to make an autumn candle jar

Or why not make a pumpkin garland?
4. Make Elizabeth a Halloween Outfit, with a witches hat.
This was her costume last year, hand made by me. This year’s outfit is a plain black dress, but it is totally adaptable.
And see what else you can easily make around a basic black dress for Halloween.
5. Make a Dio De Los Muertos dress too!
I love this skulls fabric, and it is halloweeny (is that a word?) without being too scary. It is also really lovely and colourful.
6. Carve a pumpkin.
Who doesn’t love a bit of pumpkin carving? I’m not very good and say every year that I’m going to get a special set of tools. This year it might happen.
And of course you can make pumpkin soup with the inners. Yum.
I don’t think we had pumpkins in the 70s!
Or maybe I will sew a pumpkin instead.
7. Get cosy in front of the fire with some hot chocolate watching our favourite film
Hygge may be so last year. But I still love a bit of the cosy in life. As the days get darker, it is lovely to get snuggled up.
8. Go watch a bonfire and firework display.
Last year Elizabeth was a little too young to really understand or stay up to watch too many fireworks. This year we will need the reins to be out and eyes in the back of our heads! Though she is a real lover of a pork pie, so pie and peas are definitely on the menu!
9. Make parkin and gingerbread men.
All the ginger feels. I know it isn’t for everyone, but I love ginger. My mum makes an AMAZING ginger cake. Maybe this year I will get to make it.
10. Make lots of great new jersey dresses for myself and Elizabeth.
I started sewing jersey at the start of this year, and made some lovely dresses for Elizabeth, but she will have grown out of a few of these. It is going to be great to get started making her (and myself) some new ones!
I shall be sharing a lot of my Autumn Bucket list activities here on my blog and over on my Instagram, so do go give me a follow.
There are a couple of people who I am sure would also have great Autumn activities to share with you, so do head over to

I love this! A beautiful idea for a post. We are in Spring here in Australia, but I will save this for fall next year. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! I’m definitely feeling the autumn love this year. Maybe it’s because I’m seeing the world through my little ones eyes!
Even though I’m on the other side of the world and am currently in Spring, I do love seeing everyone get really into the fall weather! It’s nice to see everyone enjoying the same thing together – and I’m super jealous that I can’t run through crunchy, fallen leaves for a while
I adore spring too! I’ll be ready for some lovely warm weather by then. Thank you for your comment!
Thank you! And I hadn’t even thought that ‘conkers’ might be called something different in different places around the world?! That is SO interesting! ♥️
Sewing is so much fun! I love making things this time of year! So excited. Thanks for the inspiration!! Hopefully, I will have some more fall things up on my blog soon.
I know! I love this time of year…so many makes planned. Look forward to seeing yours! Thank you for the comment.
I love Autumn too but so far the only thing on my bucket list is to go for a nice Fall Hike. I haven’t hiked much all Summer and I really miss it. Fall hiking is my favorite though because I love watching the leaves fall during my hikes and just observing the change in nature:) #ABloggingGoodTime
My little one cannot walk far enough to hike, but I am sure we will head up to the Yorkshire dales at some point to see the colour of the countryside change! Enjoy your Fall! #ablogginggoodtime

I love autumn so much and can’t wait for Halloween so I can play around with makeup!
I never thought about how my makeup choices change too! Great point!
