20 Tips To Help You Through Your Baby’s First Year:

Get organised

One of the most important things you can do as a new parent is to get organized. Make a list of things you need to buy for your baby, and make sure you have everything before your baby arrives. You’ll also want to set up a routine and create a space for your baby in your home.

Learn about infant development

It can be helpful to know what to expect from your baby in her first year. This will help you understand what she is capable of and give you ideas for activities to do with her.

Take care of yourself

New parents need to take care of themselves both physically and emotionally. Make sure you get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, and spend time with friends and family.

Meet your baby’s needs

One of your top priorities as a new parent should be meeting your baby’s needs. This includes feeding her, changing her diapers, and soothing her when she cries.

Get help from family and friends

As a new parent, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed at times. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends when you need it. For example, they may be able to watch your baby while you take a break or do some grocery shopping.

Learn about safe sleep practices

It’s important to learn about surviving sleep regression and safe sleep practices for your baby. This includes putting her to bed on her back and making sure she doesn’t have any loose blankets or pillows in her crib.

Take your baby on outings

New parents may be hesitant to take their baby out in public, but it’s actually a good idea to get her used to being around other people. Just make sure you have all of the supplies you need with you, like diapers and wipes.

Deal with crying spells

All babies cry, sometimes for no reason at all. So don’t feel guilty if you can’t calm your baby down right away. There are plenty of techniques that can help soothe a crying infant.

Get help with breastfeeding

Breastfeeding can be a challenge for some new mothers. If you’re having trouble, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a lactation consultant or your paediatrician.

Give your baby plenty of love and attention

One of the best things you can do for your baby is to give her lots of love and attention. This will help her feel secure and loved, which is essential for healthy development.

Introduce new foods gradually

It’s important to introduce new foods gradually to your baby in order to avoid any allergies or digestive problems. Start with simple foods like rice cereal and fruits and vegetables.

Be patient with milestones

Babies reach milestones at different ages, so don’t worry if your child isn’t doing everything by the book. Instead, just relax and enjoy watching her grow and learn.

Use a baby carrier

A baby carrier can be a great way to keep your baby close while you’re doing things around the house. It can also help you get some much-needed sleep when your baby is fussy.

Take care of your mental health

New parents need to take care of their mental health. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed, talk to your doctor about ways to cope.

Get involved in your community

There are likely plenty of programs and activities available in your community for new parents and babies. Get involved in as many as you can to meet other people with kids the same age as your own.

Make time for yourself

New parents need to make time for themselves. This may mean taking a break each day to read a book, walk, or schedule regular get-togethers with friends.

Ask For Advice – But Be Prepared To Work Things Out Your Own Way

Do be ready to ask for and accept help from others when negotiating the ins and outs of being a parent. But also accept that no two babies are the same, and what works for other parents may not necessarily work for you.

Be prepared for changes in your relationship

Your relationship with your partner is likely to change once you have a baby. Be prepared for this and try to communicate openly with each other about your expectations.

Celebrate your baby’s accomplishments

Every new accomplishment your baby reaches is a reason to celebrate. Whether she starts rolling over or taking her first steps, be sure to give her lots of praise and encouragement.

Enjoy this special time in your life

Becoming a parent is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. So make the most of it by embracing all the challenges and joys that come with being a new parent.

I think the thing to remember is that every parent muddles through, regardless of how well they look like they are coping. It is a bit like a swan swimming – looks elegant on the top, yet pedalling like mad under the surface.
