It is the 16th of December and the second Sunday in Advent. Are you ready for todays Rose Tinted Advent Calendar?

Where is the Elf?

The elf has been away in the sun , and came flying back via Rainbow Dash Airways.

The Advent Bag

In the Advent Bag today is Mary and the donkey, as it is the second Sunday in advent, and the perfect time for telling the story about how a pregnant Mary needed to travel to Bethlehem, the place of her birth, for the census decreed by Caesar Augustus. She traveled on a donkey.

Children’s Carols

Seeing the donkey and Mary reminded me of all the nativity plays that I was in as a child. I never got to wear the hallowed blue tea towel (Mary) but I did get to be an angel on several occasions.

These days, it isn’t always a nativity that marks this time of year. Children these days tend to do a Christmas play, which often features spacemen, baubles, and even aliens. I look forward to seeing what Elizabeth ends up being when she gets a little older. I was always blessed with a foghorn voice, and I am sure she follows in my steps.

With this in mind I would like to present a selection of my favourite Christmas Nativity carols.

Funny Nativity

I HAVE to put this first. If you watch nothing else today you must watch this. The funniest ever nativity video. Come on, we have all known someone like this. This loudly proclaiming angel will be in her late 20s now btw…

Little Donkey

This song evokes such memories.

Away in A Manger

There is nothing quite like ‘Away in a Manger’ to be the finale of a Christmas Nativity. This clip is exactly what a nativity play is all about. General hubbub and a feeling that nobody knows what is going on at the beginning, to a part where the children are well ahead of the music, to a part where it all comes together.

Music of The Day

Today’s music of the day is one of my favourite carols. King’s College Choir singing “O Holy Night”. Happy second Sunday in Advent.

Fancy finding some more carols? Ask Alexa.

See you tomorrow .
