Where is The Elf today?

The elf is swamped under a lot of tags – some of them handmade from old cards like in my post Merry Lagom Christmas!

All these ‘tags’ can only mean one thing

The Christmas Tag Post!

Many thanks to Joan at My Best Friend Adeline for tagging me in The Christmas Tag ! I’ve really enjoyed reading what others have written for this, and am so excited to now write mine!  Here are the questions.

1. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

I love giving gifts. Just to see how people react when they open your gift to them is a joy. It all makes me very happy. I would like to think that people do like what I choose for them. However, I would love to get a small surprise gift myself every now and then.

2. Do you make and stick to New Year’s resolutions?

Not usually! I have made quite a few but have rarely, if ever, stuck with them for long. I should just try to change small things and stick with it throughout the year!

3. Have you ever made a snowman?

Oh yes!  We often get snow here in Yorkshire in the UK. One year I even built a snowcat. Unfortunately it doesn’t often stick around for long though.

4. Is your Christmas tree real or fake, and what theme do you prefer?

Having a toddler means having a fake tree. I always used to love having a real 7 foot tree in the house, which I used to theme in red and gold to match my decor. But it is just not practical with a toddler, so we now have a small tree in the corner that has every colour you can think of.

5. Most memorable holiday moment?

My own personal favourite moments when I was a child was when I still believed, and I came down to find that Santa had left a pram. I was overjoyed!

These days the best moments are spent watching my little girl in awe of all the magic and lights. I cannot wait to see her face on Christmas morning!

6. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

As a family we have lots of great traditions. We trimmed the tree together on 1st of December. We like to make a gingerbread house and decorate it. Yesterday I made seasoning pudding, which is a family recipe and tradition. I always make an ultimate chocolate cake.

I love the fact that I can keep all these little things going with my daughter, and hopefully she will keep all our traditions going strong whilst we add some more of our own!

7. What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

That is a tough one. I think I will have to say my engagement ring. My gorgeous other half proposed on Christmas Day, and so I guess that my ring was a present of sorts. It does mean that Christmas is a doubly special time.

8. What are your favourite holiday foods?
What foods do I not love should be a better question?! All the holiday food is so good. Christmas probably gives me more of a reason to eat cheese (especially stilton…mmmm), which I avoid throughout the year as it is so calorific.

But I do also love making and eating another family tradition, which is an ultimate chocolate cake. My brother doesn’t eat raisins, so shuns Christmas cake and pudding for chocolate. The chocolate cake is the best! I am going to blog the recipe next week, so stay tuned.
9. What is your favourite Christmas film?

I have so many, and am going to be discussing my favourite 5 adult Christmas films tomorrow. I discussed my favourite 5 children films at Christmas back at the start of advent.

My favourite EVER Christmas film has to be “A Christmas Carol” – the 1951 Black and White version with Alastair Sim. What is more hygge than sitting watching an old B&W movie at Christmas?

10. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Again, during advent I’ve had a song for every day. My favourites are probably those from my own youth, so Wizzard and Slade rank highly. But another of my favourites, keeping with the ‘tag’ theme is The Waitresses, with “Christmas Wrapping” (see what I did there?)

11. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Being with friends and family. It is a great time to just enjoy the company of others.

I also love having little ones now, it is magical for them, and it is wonderful to see how they react.

12. What would be your dream place to visit at Christmas time?

I have been on holiday at Christmas when I worked as a singer, and it wasn’t the same as being at home with the family

I think if I were to go anywhere for Christmas, it would have to be somewhere in Germany or Austria where they have snow and lots of traditions.

13. Who do you spend Christmas with?

My family. My brother and I take it in turns to host for about 8 of us. With two toddlers it is a raucous affair. Love it!

14. When do you start getting excited about Christmas?

Usually at the start of December. The fairs start happening, the lights go up in our village and it all just starts to feel more festive.

15. You have one Christmas wish – what will it be?

Peace on Earth. And no Gutenberg. Only joking. I just haven’t dared update yet!

Oh it’s so nice when you can start passing on your favourite memories and traditions to your own kids, isn’t it! We have a fake tree too, due to young kids. My 7yo asked if we could have a real tree this year – hubby answered that if she could give a good reason, he’d consider it, but she didn’t have one. Maybe next year…?! Haha #blogcrush

A real tree is lovely, but it is very messy and takes more looking after. Having said that I do miss the smell. Every morning you are greeted with a lovely scent!
